What a wonderful Women’s Festival of Walking Football!
More than 60 women joined us from Coffs Harbour to Wollongong, the Central Coast, Newcastle, Campbelltown and everywhere in between for a truly memorable day at Cromer Park.
Our day began at 9am with representatives from Women & Children First joining us to share more about the important work they do supporting women and children experiencing domestic violence, abuse and homelessness.
Players then chose a bib colour, met their teammates and took to the pitches. Teams were created on the day, bringing together experienced players, newer players and five wonderful first-time “L-platers” who were able to discover WalkSoccer in a welcoming and supportive environment.
Under blue skies and on a beautiful 19-degree winter day, we played through until a very well-earned lunch break. We feasted on fresh Vietnamese rolls and mini bánh mì, generously supplied by Yen , one of our players and the owner of Roll’d Chatswood, along with an incredible table of homemade treats shared by our players. A special mention must go to Arna and her world-famous curry puffs!
Jane from our Campbelltown hub also brought beautiful handmade gifts for everyone to share, along with thoughtful thank-you packs for the organisers.
After lunch, it was back onto the pitches for more WalkSoccer before finishing the day with a very entertaining penalty shootout. Congratulations to our last player standing and Queen of the Day, Naoko!
Thank you to the amazing Mar, who captured the day through her lens. Although she was unable to participate on the field, she is a much-loved member of our walking football community, and we are so grateful for the beautiful moments she preserved for us all.
Thank you to our wonderful support crew who refereed, managed the start and finish hooters and helped keep the games running smoothly.
Thank you also to everyone who assisted with setting up the fields, packing away, cleaning the clubhouse and helping wherever needed throughout the day.
Most importantly, thank you to our fabulous community of women walking footballers. Your friendship, inclusion, encouragement and wonderful spirit made the day such a success.
